Uniting experts - BoF sessions scheduled
Heading in new directions often leads to new questions. One way to get answers is to talk with others in the field and birds-of-a-feather (BoF) sessions are the perfect opportunities to come together with other experts and share new ideas and information . This year, the ISC’09 Program Committee has selected 15 BoFs from a total of 29 submissions.
Sessions will be held from 1:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, June 26.
BoFs are open to all conference participants, so come and flock together!
Here are some of the highlights from the BoFs program:
• “A High Level GPU/Accelerator Programming Model”, by Michael Wolfe, The Portland Group, USA
• “Parallel Programming Tools for Multicore”, by Bettina Krammer, UVSQ, France
• “Multiple Ways to Debug: Users’ Tips & Tricks”, by Nikolay Piskun and Brian Bonenfant, TotalView Technologies, USA
• “DEISA & HPC-Europa: EU Support for HPC Users”, David Henty, University of Edinburgh, UK and Giovanni Erbacci, CINECA, Italy

Research Posters to catch your eye and your attention
Research posters offer a unique way to learn about new developments. You can either scan them quickly as you walk by, take a few minutes to read more deeply, or come back when the author is present and engage in an in-depth discussion.
At ISC’09, 25 selected scientific posters will be prominently displayed throughout the conference (June 24–26), and there will be a Research Poster Reception from 1:45–2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, which will allow conference attendees to discuss the research displays with the presenters.

There are some minor changes in the time schedule on Thursday, June 25.
The session “HPC in Seismic: Processing and Oil Exploration” will now be held from t 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
To accommodate this change, the session on “HPC & Visualisation” is scheduled earlier, from 9-10:30 a.m.
You find the detailed program of each session on our website .
Mediasponsors on ISC’09
Every June, many of the world's leading experts in high-performance computing convene in Germany to discuss the latest advances in supercomputing and to get a glimpse of what the future holds. Now in its 24th year, the International Supercomputing Conference, or ISC, was the first international meeting to focus solely on supercomputing. HPCwire will once again cover the upcoming ISC'09 conference with special reports on the direction of supercomputing.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our mediasponsors for their continuous support.
Hideaways - Hamburg Tip
ISC’09 is famous for its collegial atmosphere, but sometimes you feel the need to get away from it all, whether to get some fresh air or to hold a private conversaton.
Here are some tips for a short break.
Need to really relax? The SIDE hotel, located only five minutes away from the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH), provides a beautifully designed spa which is also open to visitors. Besides a fitness room they offer various body treatments. On their website they write: “A hit for those with a tight schedule – the 15-minute STOP massage, not just for the lunch break.”
The spa opens at 6 a.m., but treatment times are from 1-8:30 p.m Monday through Friday.

Every Thursday the cafe “Schöne Aussichten” (Beautiful Views) opens its doors at 6 p.m. to those who want to recover from a long working day and enjoy the romantic surroundings of the botanical garden. During the happy hour, cocktails start at 4,50 €. You find the after-work-club south of the CCH, across the big garden “Planten un Bloomen” (which is also worth exploring for a relaxing walk).
