Flock Together – Call for BoFs
Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions provide opportunities for conference attendees with common interests to come together for an informal discussion and sharing new ideas and information on HPC topics. Each 40-minute session is led by one or more individuals with expertise in a specific area. Anyone attending ISC’09 can suggest a topic for a BoF session. Submission deadline is April 12, 2009.
BoFs are open to all conference participants and will be held from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, June 26.

- ISC’09 Keynote Talk by Andreas von Bechtolsheim, Chief Architect & Co-Founder, Sun Microsystems, Founder & Chief Development Officer, Arista Networks, on The Evolution of Interconnects for High Performance Computing
- Wednesday Keynote by Prof. Dr. Thomas Sterling, Arnaud & Edwards Professor of Computer Science at Louisiana State University, on HPC Achievement & Impact – 2009
- Thursday Keynote by Prof. Dr. Gunter Dueck, IBM Distinguished Engineer, on Lean Brain Management – More Success and Efficiency by Saving Intelligence
- Friday Keynote by Prof. Dr. Edgar Körner, President of the Honda Research Institute Europe, on The Brain-like Vision
Conference Program – Focus on Weather & Climate, Aeronautics and Clouds
This year's conference program is set to be the most illustrious in ISC history. The 4-day conference and trade show at the Congress Center Hamburg will provide you with a unique platform to learn, network and do business, all under one roof. With more than 1,500 attendees and more than 120 exhibitors from over 45 countries expected to attend, ISC’09 is sure to be our biggest and best event yet. This year’s program will include a special emphasis on two key research areas being advanced through HPC: Climate & Weather and Aeronautics. We will also address in detail the current mostly discussed topic in IT: Clouds. This will be done in a 4 hours non-parallel in-depth session ‘Cloud Computing & HPC’.

Student Volunteers – New Faces at ISC’09
Besides a new location and the new pricing structure, ISC’09 is introducing another fresh idea – inviting the younger generation of HPC talents to participate as student volunteers. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply as student volunteers to help run the conference. In exchange, student volunteers will receive free conference registration, housing (for out-of-town volunteers), and most meals. Student volunteers will be asked to work a minimum of around 25 hours before and during the conference (from June 19 until June 26, 2009).
Don’t miss the opportunity to see and discuss the latest technology, and meet leading researchers from around the world while contributing to the success of this important annual event. Applications will be accepted starting February 12. For more information and an application, click here.
An Appetizer – The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg Welcomes ISC’09
For the very first time in its 24-year history, ISC’09 takes place in the international metropolis of Hamburg with its bustling life and broad cultural diversity. Since ISC’09 will be held in the modern Congress Center Hamburg (CCH), which lies in the heart of Hamburg, conference attendees will find many of the city’s attractions close at hand. In addition to being one of the greenest cities in Europe, Hamburg is Germany’s largest port, center of the country’s media industry and a thriving center for technology firms. To help you make the most of your visit, the ISC’09 newsletter will publish tips on restaurants, clubs, city life, cultural events, spas and wellness, and sport activities.
For starters, the CCH is easy to reach. It is located next to the Dammtor train station, which is served by many international trains, and is an easy taxi ride from Hamburg's international airport. Several lines of Hamburg's urban rail system also serve the congress center.
Within walking distance to the CCH lies the famous park"Planten un Blomen" - a wonderful green leisure area with a botanical garden, tropical greenhouse and the biggest Japanese garden in Europe. It’s perfect for relaxation, or just a short breather in the fresh air. From May to September ,water “games” take place here by day and in the evening there are coloured illuminated fountain concerts (May to August 10:00 p.m. daily).
